Behind a well-balanced squad (ranked fourth in the NFL in points for, sixth in the league in points against), head coach Joe Gibbs piloted the 1987 Washington Redskins to a first-place finish in the NFC East Division. Gary Clark was the team’s big playmaker, posting an average of 19.0 yards per reception, hauling in 56 passes and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Charles Mann and Dexter Manley combined for 18 sacks. In the playoffs, the Redskins defeated the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, before demolishing the Denver Broncos, 42-10, in Super Bowl XXII.

Goldin Auctions proudly presents to you for the first time publicly offered in an auction a starting player from that historic game – defensive back Alvin Walton. In the past, a few Redskins rings have been offered, but never a starter! More significantly, a starter who contributed significantly in shutting down John Elway and the Broncos’ offense. Walton had at least one tackle in each of the four quarters, including a sack of Elway for an 18-yard loss in the first quarter. Goldin Auctions previously sold a 1987 Redskins ring from a player on the practice squad for $43,000.

This stunning 10K gold Tiffany and Co. 1987 Washington Redskins Super Bowl XXII players ring was presented to Walton and features two larger round diamonds set on the image of a football, surrounded by additional smaller diamonds which fill out the shape of the football. Small colored stones also appear around the design of the ball. “WASHINGTON REDSKINS WORLD CHAMPIONS 1987” reads in relief work while two diamond-filled images of the Lombardi Trophy complete the ring’s dazzling face. One side of the ring is centered by an image of a Redskins helmet, with the name “WALTON” above and “DB” below. The opposite side displays the Super Bowl XXII logo as well as images of the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and Capitol Building. “HAIL TO THE REDSKINS” reads in a banner at the top, with the title game’s final score of 42-10 at the bottom. Inside the band is marked “TIFFANY & CO. 10K”. This item is an approximate size 11 ½ and weighs approximately 46.7 grams. Also included, is a Redskins presentation box.
