Offered is Nick Anderson’s 1988-89 Chicago Tribune Big Ten Conference Most Valuable Player Award. The front of the brown wood base of the 5¾ x 5¾ x 12-inch trophy features a 3 x 4-inch silver metal plaque engraved in black with the legend “Big Ten Conference Most Valuable Basketball Player To His Team 1988-89 Nick Anderson University of Illinois Presented By The Chicago Tribune”. The silver metal basketball and mount on the top of the trophy are loose on the wood base. Anderson attended the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign for two years, playing on the team that reached the NCAA Final Four in 1989; that Fighting Illini team was given the nickname "Flyin' Illini" by ESPN’s Dick Vitale. Among Anderson's teammates were Kendall Gill, Stephen Bardo, Kenny Battle and Marcus Liberty, all of whom would go on to play in the NBA.
