Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor single-handedly revolutionized the outside linebacker position. This may have not been more evident during November 27th, 1988 game between the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints. In the absence of fellow linebackers Harry Carson and Carl Banks, Taylor’s dominance – which included three sacks, two forced fumbles, a batted pass and seven total tackles helped lead the Giants to a 13-12 victory.

For his efforts, Taylor was presented with this Mercedes-Benz Star Player of the Game award. This approximately 11 ½ inch high award features a silver football on a triangle holder, similar to the Lombardi Trophy. This combination of football and triangle holder is mounted on a 4 ½ x 4 ½ inch dark wood square box that is mounted on a 5 ½ x 5 ½ inch dark wood base. A 4 ½ x 2 ½ inch silver plate reads “STAR PLAYER OF THE GAME PRESENTED To LAWRENCE TAYLOR Giants vs Saints November 27, 1988 By MERCEDES-BENZ MANHATTAN INC.” The Hall of Fame Taylor has signed his name on the adjacent panel in bold contrasting silver marker and inscribed “56”. This award is in fair condition with some tarnish on the silver and some scratches on the wood. This item comes with a COA from JSA (WP595945).
