The 1988 Notre Dame Fighting Irish met all challenges during a season that saw them match up against four different Top 10 opponents. After 12 games, ending with a 34-21 win over No. 3 West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl, Notre Dame claimed the National Championship with a perfect 12-0 record. Irish coach Lou Holtz’s squad outscored their opponents 32.8 to 13.0 points per game. The offense was guided by a trio of players who rushed for over 600 yards apiece, led by QB Tony Rice (700 yards, 9 TDs). Raghib “Rocket” Ismail was a big play machine, averaging 27.6 yards per reception while averaging 36.1 yards per kickoff return, including two return TDs.

Presented here is a Balfour 10K gold 1988 Notre Dame Fighting Irish NCAA Football National Championship ring, featuring a large enamel-filled “ND” logo, surrounded by CZs, set on the ring’s football-shaped center. “NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 1988” is displayed around the outer perimeter. One side of the ring shows the name “WARD” above an image of a Notre Dame football helmet, with the team’s record of 12-0-0 below. “NOTRE DAME” reads at the top of the opposite side, with the words “TRUST”, “LOVE” and “COMMITMENT” surrounding the image of Notre Dame’s famed Golden Dome.  The inside of this approximate size 11 band is marked “LGB 10K” with the weight of the ring approximately 30.3 grams. This item includes the original display box, with reads “NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 1988” around the team’s “ND” logo.
