Cal Ripken, Jr. was the undisputed star of the Orioles by 1989. His bat coupled by his flawless fielding made him one of the American League's most exciting players. At the time this glove was used by him, Cal was making his 7th straight All-Star Game and would finish 3rd in the American League MVP voting – receiving 6 First Place votes and finishing behind Hall of Famer Robin Yount (winner) and Ruben Sierra. This offered Rawlings PRO 6-HF model glove was broken in and used by Cal Ripken, Jr. during the 1989 season. This glove displays light game use with slight wear being shown on the pocket, web face and throughout the body of the glove.

The glove was constructed of Rawlings top grade “Heart of the Hide” tanned steer hid and is bound with tanned rawhide laces. The web is a “Basket Web”and a closed “Fastback” with finger “Holdster” back and an adjustable wrist strap. The Rawlings red label with white lettering is on the wrist and Ripken labeled the bag with this glove with “Started To Break it in” and “Early Career Shortstop Glove Could Be 82-83 year Started to Break it in. Basket weave is the Type of glove I used when I switched to shortstop”. This glove comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr with a signed LOA from Cal that will accompany this glove. Additionally, there is a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00685) for the game use. Please note that in their LOA, PSA/DNA states “Ripken is incorrect with his years as the year code, SE001, indicates the glove was manufactured in July of 1989.”
