Swung by the Yankees first baseman during the 1989 season in which he won his 4th of 9 Golden Glove Awards and was selected to his 6th consecutive All-Star Game. This natural finished ash Rawlings Adirondack model DM23 is 34” and 31oz and shows outstanding use with slight checking (grain swelling) on the back barrel. The bat is marked by many stitch impressions and ball marks that include blue ink transfers. Bat racks have left blue paint streaks and cleat marks are present. Light pine tar remains on the handle. The model number DM23, order number 202 and year 89 were stamped by Rawlings into the knob. Mattingly has signed the bat to the right of his name on the barrel in blue marker. Interestingly, Mattingly had the habit of not marking his bats with his own uniform number but with the number worn by other Yankee greats whose numbers had been previously retired - in this case Joe DiMaggio’s famed number 5 which has been applied with black marker. Graded PSA/DNA GU 9. PSA/DNA LOA. Multiple images and LOAs available at goldinauctions.com.
