Anthony “Tony” Ferrara joined the Yankees in 1970 where he served numerous roles including BP pitcher, bullpen coach and scout for more than a quarter century. He assisted Robert Redford in the film “The Natural” and even appeared in the film as a third-base coach. After three years as first base coach for the Newark Bears, Ferrara managed in the semi-pro Israeli Baseball League before he passed in 2009.
Ferrara wore this jersey during the 1989 season. The black arm band honors the memory of Lefty Gomez who passed that season. The home Yankee jersey bears the Yankee entwined “NY” on the front and number “1” on the back. Tags include a name tag “Ferrara” on the inside, center back and a Wilson 100% polyester/care instructions/size (“42”) tag on the rear, center collar.
An official Yankees Genuine Merchandise visor, white with scripted blue “New York Yankees” across the façade holds diverse signatures in black from pitcher Ralph Branca and catcher Joe Pignatano, and NFL referee Tony Veteri.
