The United States Women’s National Soccer Team won the 1991 CONCACAF Championships in dominating fashion, outscoring their group stage opponents 34-0 in three games. The United States then defeated host nation Haiti in the semifinals by a score of 10-0. In the finals against Canada, the United States scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the game en route to a 5-0 victory. The United States finished the tournament with a +49 goal differential in five games.
Offered in this lot is the 1991 CONCACAF Women’s Championship gold medal originally presented to USWNT hero Michelle Akers. The world class striker scored 11 goals in the tournament to win the Golden Boot as a part of her 39-goal year, a USWNT record. In the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup, held later that summer, Akers scored 10 goals to earn her second Golden Boot of the year. This offered medal is gold and attached to a red ribbon. The medal features a high-relief etching of a soccer player on the front and “HAITI CONCACAF FEMININ FIRST PLACE” printed on the ribbon in blue. Please note that the text on the ribbon has faded slightly. This lot originates from the personal memorabilia collection of Michelle Akers, who has provided a LOA. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
