Akers scored both goals for the USA in their 2-1 win over Norway in the finals, including the game-winner with two minutes left in the 80-minute match. Akers scored five times during a 7-0 quarterfinals win over Chinese Taipei and finished the tournament as the Golden Boot and Silver Ball winner. The former All-American at UCF led the USWNT to a second World Cup title in 1999, defeating China at the Rose Bowl in a historic tournament.
