As fleeting as Barry Sanders was in slicing through defenses—changing directions on the drop of a dime in the process—so, too, was the Kansas-born running back in prematurely ending what was arguably the most prolific career of any running back in NFL history. Drafted by a woeful Detroit Lions team in 1989 (after deciding to forgo his senior year at Oklahoma State University), Sanders immediately brought a new-found electricity to the Pontiac Silverdome. With 18 yards on his first-ever carry, Sanders quickly set a precedent of lengthy runs to follow. Eclipsing the 1,000-plus yards mark in each of his 10 seasons in the NFL, Sanders became the first man to rush for 1,500 or more yards five times—and the only grid star to better the 1,500-yard mark in four straight seasons (1994-1997).

The 1992 season saw Sanders eclipse the 1,300-yard mark with 1,352 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Sanders wore this home blue Detroit Lions mesh jersey during the 1992 season. This light blue size 44 Wilson jersey features Sanders’ number “20” screen-printed in white and silver on the front, back and sleeves. Each sleeve has silver and white stripes screen-printed on the end and the back of the jersey has “B. SANDERS” sewn on in white tackle twill on a matching light blue name plate. The NFL logo patch is sewn on at the base of the v-neck. This jersey displays moderate game use with some staining and marks on the screen-printed numbers. This jersey comes with a LOA from Mears, who have graded this jersey an A5.
