In the 1992 Olympic Summer Games in Barcelona, the sport of baseball achieved medal status for the first time. The United States placed fourth in the eight team field, while the Japanese team placed third, winning the Bronze Medal. Bob Whiting is an American author, who moved to Japan in the 1960s, still resides there and has written extensively about Japanese baseball. This Balfour 10K gold ring has a very large blue stone with "OLYMPIC BASEBALL" in raised relief on the perimeter. The one shank has the name "WHITING" engraved on a banner with the "IBA" logo and the year "1992" below. The other shank has the Olympic Rings, and the city name "BARCELONA." This size 10 ring weighs 28 grams, and has "BALFOUR 10K" and the name "Bob Whiting" engraved within the band. A very nice ring from the first ever Olympic games which baseball was a medal sport. LOA from well known ring expert Scott Welkowsky.
