The Charlotte Hornets joined the NBA in 1988, and although they were not immediately successful, the Hornets were perennially among the NBA’s top franchises in attendance per year. They experienced their first taste of postseason success in 1992-93, making the playoffs and upsetting the favored Boston Celtics in four game of the opening round best-of-five series. Although they lost in the next round to the New York Knicks, the Hornets proved that they belonged in the NBA.
This ball is signed by 10 members of the 1993-94 Charlotte Hornets. The 93-94 Hornets finished 41-41, narrowly missing the playoffs but leading the NBA in attendance. Signatures on this ball include Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Dell Curry, Hersey Hawkins, Kenny Gattison, Mike Gminski, LeRon Ellis, Johnny Newman, and Steve Henson. The signatures were written in black marker. This basketball comes with a LOA from JSA (Z07185).
