Cal Ripken, Jr. wore this gray Baltimore Orioles Road uniform, including both jersey and pants, during the Orioles’ 5-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on June 12, 1993. Ripken recorded two hits in five at-bats during the victory. Ripken Jr. would again wear this jersey during the Orioles’ 4-2 loss to Boston on June 13th. Ripken Jr. went 0 for 4 during the loss during a season that saw the “Ironman” make his 11th consecutive All-Star team in 1993, and take home his seventh Silver Slugger, while hitting .257 with 24 homers, 90 RBI, and 26 doubles.
The jersey in this lot is a gray button-down, with “Orioles” and Ripken’s number “8” sewn on the chest in black and orange tackle twill. “RIPKEN” and a second “8” are sewn on the back in black and orange tackle twill, with “RIPKEN” sewn over a matching gray nameplate. A 1993 All-Star Game patch is sewn on the left sleeve. The sleeve openings are accented with an orange-black-orange band. A Russell size “48” tag and a year tag are sewn on the front left tail of the jersey. The pants in this lot are also gray, with a Russell size “37” tag and a “8 Ripken” swatch sewn on the back inside waistband. This uniform comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal accompanying this game-used uniform.
