Presented is a 1993 Cotton Bowl game used Wilson football presented to coach Lou Holtz. The Wilson 1001 brown pebbled leather football features the legend "Cotton Bowl Notre Dame - Texas A&M 28-3 Coach Lou Holtz Jan. 1, 1993" painted on one lower panel in orange gold letters. The top panels feature the Wilson logo embossed in black with gold; below the logo on one side is the logo "1001 Exclusive Wilson NFL Pattern" embossed in black, with the logo "AFCRT" embossed on the other side of the ball. Embossed on the side opposite the painted legend is the caption "Fighting Irish" embossed in black letters. The top of the ball features white stripes at either edge of the ball and the ball is slightly deflated. Perhaps the most successful period of Holtz's college coaching career was his stint as head coach of the University of Notre Dame (1986-1996). Holtz's 1993 Irish team ended the season with an 11–1 record and ranked second in the final AP poll. On November 13, Notre Dame played Florida State in a matchup of unbeatens. The winner of this game, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, was certain to play #3 Nebraska (which would then move up to #2) in the Orange Bowl for the national championship. The next week, they faced Boston College and although the Notre Dame offense piled up 427 yards of offense, scored 5 touchdowns, including 22 points in the last 11 minutes, the game would forever be remembered on Boston College's last drive as their kicker David Gordon hit a 41-yard field goal as time expired to win it 41–39, ending Notre Dame's bid for an undefeated season. Despite beating #7 Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day, the national championship was awarded to Florida State.
