Coming off his first of what would be four straight National League Cy Young Awards, Hall of Famer Greg Maddux was the top free agent following his 1992 season with the Chicago Cubs in which he went 20-11 with a 2.18 ERA in 35 starts. Already with a loaded pitching staff that included Hall of Famers Tom Glavine and John Smoltz, the Atlanta Braves swooped in and signed Maddux to a five-year $28 million deal forming the top rotation in baseball for years to come. Maddux continued his dominant form with Atlanta in 1993 as he led the NL in ERA (2.36), games started (36), complete games (8) and innings pitched (268) as he easily won his second consecutive Cy Young Award.

Offered here is an Atlanta Braves road jersey that was issued to Maddux during the 1993 regular season and shows appropriate use wear for a couple of games. This button-down size 44 Russell Athletic jersey has “Atlanta” sewn on in script across the chest in red and navy tackle twill. A tomahawk serves as a paraph and is sewn on in red and navy tackle twill with some gold accent stitching. There is navy/red/navy piping that runs around the collar and down both sides of the buttons and along the sleeve ends.

The correct Russell tag style for 1992 and early 1993 is on this jersey, which has the very flat-angled “Diamond Collection” script and 4-line wash instructions and is sewn on the bottom front left tail. A white patch with “93” is sewn on above the Russell tag and an “Intera” flag is attached to the Russell tag and is only found in 1992 and 1993 Russell Athletic Braves’ jerseys. The back has “MADDUX” sewn on in navy tackle twill on a matching gray nameplate, while his number “31” is sewn on below in red and navy tackle twill. The right sleeve has the Russell Athletic logo embroidered in navy and red and all of the letters and numbers on this jersey are original with no alterations. This comes with a LOA from noted game used baseball jersey expert William Henderson.
