Former close Lee Smith finished his career with 478 saves, which currently stands third all-time behind Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman. In an attempt to bolster their bullpen, the New York Yankees traded for the powerful righthander in August of 1993. Smith did his part as he appeared in eight games and pitched eight scoreless innings, while picking up his 400th career save against the Boston Red Sox on September 17th.
Smith wore this Russell Athletic size 52 New York Yankees button down road jersey during his brief stint with the Bombers in 1993. “NEW YORK” is sewn on across the chest in navy blue on white tackle twill and Smith’s number “47” is sewn on in navy blue on white tackle twill on the back of the jersey. The sleeves are capped by navy blue and white striping and the Russell Athletic tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail with a “1993” white patch sewn below. Smith signed his name diagonally on the “4” on the back of the jersey in silver marker and inscribed “Game used” on the middle rung of the “4”. This jersey shows light use and there are loose threads on the back numbers. This jersey comes with a LOA from Lee Smith.
