Perhaps no player of the immediate pre-steroid era was more exciting to watch than Rickey Henderson. Explosive from his first season with his hometown Oakland A’s, Henderson let the AL in stolen bases 12 times and was having another massive year when he was traded to the Blue Jays mid-way through the 1993 season. A broken bone in his hand just after joining the team limited his contribution but he still swiped 22 bases and scored 37 runs helping the Blue Jays to the 1993 World Series. Rickey stole a base and scored 5 runs as the Series went into Game Six, Toronto ahead 3 games to 2. With the Phillies ahead 6-5 going into the bottom of the 9th, Rickey got himself on base with a walk. Paul Molitor singled, moving Rickey over to second and then Joe Carter hit a home run winning the World Series in one of the most dramatic endings in sports history. This was the road jersey Rickey wore during that 1993 World Series. The gray Wilson jersey shows spectacular game use with pine tar evident on the shoulder and staining on the front. Front has “TORONTO” in the team’s unique post-modern font style above their blue jay mascot. The special 1993 World Series patch is sewn on the left sleeve. The inside collar carries the Wilson size “44” tagging with an added “TAPERED” tag. A gray cloth strip with “24 29 3” is sewn below the Wilson tagging. The back has “HENDERSON” in royal blue tackle twill above his number “24” in blue and white tackle twill. Rickey has signed the front of the jersey in blue marker”Rickey Henderson 1993 W.S. Games W. Champs”. Remarkable part of World Series history worn by one of the game’s most exciting players. Authenticated and certified by MEARS as a perfect 10.
