The Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this 1994 Worldfest-Charleston Grand Award for Best Television and Cable Production for his role as a co-executive producer on Road to Freedom: The Vernon Johns Story. This television film starred James Earl Jones as Vernon Johns, an influential African-American pastor and civil rights activist during the mid-20th century. This award measures 15.5 inches tall and takes the shape of a gold statuette holding a gold star aloft. A placard affixed to the base of this prestigious award reads “Worldfest-Charleston / The Charleston International Film Festival / Grand Award – 1994 / ‘The Vernon John [sic] Story’ / Best Television & Cable Production / Laurel Entertainment”. This item comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
