It may have been just another day on the job for Cal Ripken Jr. but September 4, 1995 also marked the 2,129th consecutive game played during the 16th season of his illustrious 21-year career on the eve of tying Iron Horse Lou Gehrig’s record of 2,130. Ripken signed this game-used, Gene Budig American League ball on the sweet spot in black ballpoint ink. Identified by its recipient as one Ripken hit foul off Angles hurler Jim Abbott with a dated description, the caramel glazed ball shows game used wear and also carries the signature of Baltimore Orioles utility infielder Bret Barberie, with the owner’s inscription identifying him as the second baseman on a September date. Two-piece lot also includes official lineup card for the Sept. 4, 1995 game signed by Orioles skipper Phil Regan and Ripken with a “2,129” inscription it is framed in 14.5” x 12.5” mounted display. Both items are PSA/DNA pre-certified and the lineup card contains a JSA COA #F84383 signed by Phil Regan.
