Presented on June 9, 1995, the 8 x 14 inch award has a 1 ½ inch deep glass plaque with the legend, “Cleveland Sports Stars Hall of Fame,” and rests on a black plastic base and gray plastic pedestal. There is a silver metal plaque on the pedestal with the legend, “Star of Cleveland Presented to World B. Free June 9, 1995.” Free, born Lloyd B. Free before he changed his name in 1981, played in the NBA from 1975 to 1988, for the San Diego Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets. He got the nickname from his high school days in Brooklyn, where a friend nicknamed him "World" because of his 44-inch vertical leap and 360 degree dunks. He was known for taking high risk shots and playing flamboyantly. Cleveland media have described him as the man who saved the Cleveland Cavaliers from extinction during his days with the team (1982-1986). This item is accompanied by a LOA from Sandee Free.
