Allen Iverson’s rookie season is the stuff of legends in Philadelphia, with the former Georgetown standout immediately rejuvenating a moribund franchise. Iverson, the first overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft, averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 assists per game in 1996-97, easily winning the NBA Rookie of the Year trophy. Iverson built on his successful rookie season to construct a Hall of Fame career, averaging 26.7 points per game with an MVP trophy and four NBA scoring titles to his name.

Offered in this lot is a red 76ers jersey worn in three games during the 1996-97 NBA season by Allen Iverson, including in his second career game on November 2nd. Iverson scored 15 points on the 2nd as the Chicago Bulls defeated the Sixers 115-86 at United Center. As it turns out, Iverson would have the last laugh, crossing Michael Jordan over in one of the 1990’s most famous highlights later in the 1996-97 season. Iverson next wore this jersey on November 12th, scoring 35 points on 10-19 shooting as the Sixers beat the Knicks 101-97 at Madison Square Garden. Iverson added seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals in a star-making performance. The Virginia native’s final game in this jersey came on December 4th against the San Antonio Spurs at the Alamodome. Iverson recorded a double-double of 26 points and 11 assists in this game, a 113 to 103 San Antonio win.
