Cal Ripken Jr. wore this black Baltimore Orioles batting helmet during the 1996 MLB Japan All-Star Series. Ripken had a fantastic year in MLB in 1996, posting a triple crown slash line of .278/26/102 with 40 doubles. The tour pitched a team of MLB All-Stars against their Japanese counterparts in an eight-game series which saw the Americans win four games and the Japanese two, with two games ending in a tie. This flapless batting helmet is black, with a Baltimore logo applied to the front and a Sun Microsystems advertisement applied to the right side of the helmet. An ABC logo is printed on the helmet’s back. Ripken’s number “8” is handwritten in slightly faded black marker on the crown padding inside the helmet. Adhered to the inside of the helmet is a Diamond Collection sticker, a size “7 ?” sticker, and a “Warning” sticker. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal accompanying this game used helmet.
