Cal Ripken Jr. wore this black Baltimore Orioles batting helmet during the 1996 MLB regular season and the 1996 MLB Japan All-Star Series. Ripken had a spectacular year in MLB in 1996, posting a triple crown slash line of .278/26/102 with 40 doubles. The tour saw a team of MLB All-Stars play against their Japanese counterparts in an eight-game series, which saw the Americans win four games and the Japanese two, with two games ending in a tie.
This batting helmet is black, with a Baltimore logo applied to the front and a Sun Microsystems advertisement applied to the right side of the helmet. An ABC logo and an MLB logo are printed on the helmet’s back below an “8 Ripken” label. A flap is present over the left ear. Adhered to the inside of the helmet is a Diamond Collection sticker, a size “7 ?” sticker, and a “Warning” sticker. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal accompanying this game used helmet.
