Few pitchers were as dominating as John Smoltz was during his 22 seasons in the MLB. Smoltz is an eight-time All-Star selection and won a World Series in 1995 as a part of the dominant pitching rotation that included Hall of Famer Greg Maddux. Smoltz, a two-time NL strike out and wins leader, won the NL Cy Young Award in 1996 after posting a record of 24-8. As if Smoltz's career wasn't astounding enough, the right-handed pitcher from Waverly, Michigan, converted to reliever in 2001 and set an NL record with 55 saves and became only the second pitcher in history to record both a 20-win season and a 50-save season. Smoltz is the only pitcher in MLB history to record both 200 wins and 150 saves. Smoltz was enshrined in Cooperstown on the first ballot in 2015.

Offered here are two game used John Smoltz items. The first item in this lot is a game used Atlanta Braves jersey worn by Smoltz during this Cy Young Award-winning 1996 season and signed by the Hall of Famer. The white jersey features "BRAVES" across the chest in red-on-navy tackle twill with a tomahawk paraph. The front placket and sleeves feature red and navy stripes. A Wilson manufacturer's tag with a size "48" flag appears on the left front tail. A white swatch labeled "96" in black embroidery appears on the left front tail. "SMOLTZ" appears across the back of the jersey in navy tackle twill on a matching white nameplate. The number "29" appears on the back of the jersey in red-on-navy tackle twill. Smoltz signed the number "9" on the back of the jersey with a black marker. The jersey displays moderate evidence of game use and contains minor puckering of the twill lettering, a black stain on the front placket, and a large black stain on the right lateral side. The item comes with an LOA from JSA for the signature, and an LOA from noted game used jersey expert William Henderson.

The second item is a pair of size 12 Mizuno cleats worn by John Smoltz during the 2004 season and signed by the Hall of Famer. The black cleats feature the Mizuno logo on the outstep and instep in white. The Mizuno logo appears on the tongue of each cleat in embroidered gold with black trim. Nine metal cleats are attached to hard rubber soles that feature the Mizuno logo in white. "MIZUNO SPIKE" is embroidered on the heel of each cleat. The number "29" inscribed in black marker by an unknown hand appears on the Mizuno logo on each instep. Smoltz signed his name with a silver metallic paint pen on the toe box of each cleat. The cleats display excellent evidence of game use and contain wear on the toe boxes, dirt attached to the spikes, and marks and abrasions across the entirety of the cleats. The item comes with an LOA from JSA for the signature and an LOA from J.T. Sports (1442-Left Cleat, 1441-Right Cleat) for the game use.
