Undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. had an unbelievable 50-0 professional record. Mayweather began his professional boxing journey with a TKO win against Robert Apodaca in Las Vegas in October of 1996, amassing 49 more wins capped off by a victory over mixed martial arts legend Conor McGregor in the Irish firebrand’s boxing debut. Mayweather came onto the boxing scene by making the 1996 US Olympic team, where he earned a bronze medal. Many believe he was robbed of a chance at gold when he lost controversially on points 10-9 during his semi-final bout against Bulgarian boxer Serarfim Todorov.

Mayweather, nevertheless, was able to parlay his performance in the 1996 Games to one of the best professional boxing careers of all-time. Offered here is the blue cover up shirt used by Mayweather when he entered the ring during his 1996 Olympics Featherweight quarterfinal fight against Lorenzo Aragon of Cuba. Mayweather edged Aragon on points 12-11 to advance to the semifinals.  Mayweather’s victory over Aragon was the first American boxer to defeat a Cuban since the 1976 Olympics. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a match-worn item from Mayweather’s amateur career.

This blue cover up shirt has white trim on the front and collar with white stars on each short sleeve. The sleeves are a lighter denim color blue. The upper left chest has “USA BOXING” in white with the logo above and “adidas” is in black on a white box on the upper right chest. Three vertical white stripes run from the V-neck collar base to the waist. The back has “USA” sewn on in red and white tackle twill. Please note that the white tackle twill portion has been bled on by the red. The front of this cover up opens and closes with a clip and Velcro. This size L shirt displays soiling from use and comes with a LOA from Craig R. Hamilton, who states in his LOA “It is my conclusion this cover up shirt was worn by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in his 1996 Olympic Games fight with Lorenzo Aragon.
