For the first time since the inception of the Super Bowl when it was then referred to as the AFL-NFL World Championship, the Green Bay Packers hoisted the trophy that bears the name of their legendary coach Vince Lombardi when Brett Favre captained the Packers to a 35-21 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. Held at the Louisiana Superdome, Desmond Howard earned Most Valuable Player honors from his skills as a return man, bringing a kickoff back 99 yards for a backbreaking and game-changing touchdown after the Patriots had fought back to cut Green Bay’s lead to 27-21 in the third quarter. Howard also contributed a Super Bowl record 90-yard punt return in his MVP performance.

Presented here is a stunning Super Bowl XXXI Green Bay Packers 10 karat gold championship ring presented to Running Back’s coach Harry Sydney. Sydney was a former running back with the San Francisco 49ers from 1987 through 1991 and finished his last season with the Packers in 1992. Sydney won two Super Bowls with the 49ers in 1988 and 1989. Covered with 115 total diamonds totaling 2.35 carats, this ring is the same player’s style ring that was presented to players like Brett Favre and Reggie white. This ring features a raised top covered in diamonds with the Packers’ “G” logo. “WORLD” and “CHAMPIONS” surround the top and are joined by a line of diamonds along the outside. The left shank has “SYDNEY”, the Packers helmet, “16-3” and “COACH” all in raised relief. The opposite shank has “PACKERS”, “1996” and “TRADITION” all in raised relief. The inside band has “©10K” stamped and this ring is a massive size of 14, weighing approximately 52.18 grams. Packers rings from the 1996 championship season are very few and far between and this is the first of its kind offered by Goldin Auctions.
