Kelly Slater is widely acknowledged as the greatest surfer in the sport’s history; an immortal legend with an unprecedented 11 Association of Surfing Professionals world titles in his back pocket. Slater’s impact on the sport is inconceivably large, and this offered artwork by the noted surfing artist and writer Greg Gutierrez appropriately captures Slater’s essence. This artwork, which was featured in a 1997 Surfer Magazine article, is oil on canvas and is done in a colorful and abstract style reminiscent of the pop art masters. The most striking feature of this artwork are Slater’s piercing blue eyes, which seem to follow the viewer’s gaze like the Mona Lisa. The color palate used in this painting is varied and engrossing, and Gutierrez’s signature appears in a lower corner of the painting along with a 1996 indicator. The painting measures 18 x 24 inches and is in great condition and comes with the above referenced Surfer Magazine from 1997.
