The beginning of the New York Yankees modern dynasty, the 1996 Bronx Bombers heralded a return to greatness for the proud franchise capturing the team’s first World Series championship since 1978 and the first of four Fall Classic victories in five years. Fueled by a bumper crop of home grown stars including Rookie of the Year Derek Jeter and future all-time saves leader Mariano Rivera, as well as stalwart starter Andy Pettitte, and classy centerfielder Bernie Williams the Yankees cruised to their first AL East division title in 17 years with a 92-70 record. The Bombers made quick work of the Texas Rangers in the ALDS, and defeated division rival Baltimore in the ALCS with the assistance of a 12-year-old little leaguer named Jeffrey Maier who helped Derek Jet’s blast over the outfield wall in the first game. The Yankees battled back from a two-game deficit to beat the Atlanta Braves in the Series.

This 12” tall scale model replica of the Commissioner’s [World Series] Trophy was created by the Balfour sports industry jewelers and presented to a member of the Yankees front office. The classic design features 28 gold colored pennants labeled with the names of every Major League team circling a golden crown on top of a golden band with a silver baseball set at the base of the ring’s interior. New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves press pins are mounted on smaller golden flag poles in front of the crowned band. “1996 New York Yankees World Series Champions” is printed on a gold band circling the 23” diameter black wooden base.
