The Hall of Fame third baseman Wade Boggs wore this pair of black and white Nike cleats during the 1996 MLB season with the New York Yankees. Boggs, playing in his fourth season with New York, continued to hit like only he knew how, maintaining a sterling .311 batting average through his age-38 season. Boggs added a pair of homers, 41 RBI, 29 doubles, and 80 runs scored as the Yankees won 92 games and the American League East Division title. Boggs made the 12th All-Star team of his career in 1996 and walked more than twice as many times as he struck out in a vintage performance. The Yankees won the 1996 World Series title with a six-game defeat of the Atlanta Braves, bolstered by Boggs’ .273 World Series batting average and two RBI in four games. Boggs played one final season with New York before playing with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the final two seasons of his career. Boggs was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

The cleats offered in this lot are black and white high-top Nike cleats with a black Nike swoosh sewn on both sides of the heels. “NIKE BASEBALL” and a white Nike swoosh are applied to both tongues. Six metal cleats are present on the bottom of both soles. “NIKE AIR” is sewn on the heels in white lettering. The shoes are a size 11.5. Boggs’ number “12” is handwritten on both shoes in black marker. Boggs has signed both shoes in black marker, inscribing “Game Used Yankees” in addition to each signature. The cleats come with a J.T. Sports LOA for game use and a Beckett Authentication Services LOA for Boggs’ signature.
