Cal Ripken Jr. wore this black Baltimore Orioles batting practice helmet in 1997. The practice cuts served Ripken well in 1997, with the lifelong Oriole ending the campaign with a triple crown slash line of .270/17/84 and 30 doubles. Ripken played through the 2001 MLB season and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
This flapless batting helmet is black, with a Baltimore logo applied to the front. An ABC logo, a slightly peeling MLB 125th Anniversary sticker, and an orange “8” are applied to the back of the helmet. Adhered to the inside of the helmet is a Diamond Collection sticker, a size “7 ?” sticker, and a “Warning” sticker. Ripken has signed the brim of the helmet in silver marker. Inscribed on the underside of the brim is “Practice Helmet.” This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal accompanying this practice used helmet.
