Atlanta Braves first baseman Fred McGriff wore this Atlanta Black Crackers throwback jersey during the Braves 9-1 home victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on June 28th, 1997. McGriff went 2-4 with a double and a single before being lifted for pinch runner Danny Bautista in the seventh inning, with the Braves comfortably ahead 7-0. Hall of Famer John Smoltz earned his seventh win of the season, throwing seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts, while Phillies starter Curt Schilling picked up the loss after surrendering seven runs in 5.2 innings of work.

This cream colored throwback jersey shows light to moderate wear and was manufactured by Mitchell & Ness. It is a button down home jersey with “ATLANTA” sewn across the chest in red and navy blue felt. McGriff’s number “27” is sewn on the back of the jersey, also in red and navy blue felt. A Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary patch is sewn on the left sleeve. Navy blue and red piping accents the chest, collar, and sleeves of this jersey. A Mitchell & Ness tag with an attached size “XL” flag is sewn on the back inside collar. A Cooperstown Collection tag and a “T.B.C. 6-28-97” tag are sewn on the front left tail of this jersey. McGriff signed the right chest above “ATL” in blue marker. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication, as well as a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema, who states that this jersey shows “great wear for a 1-game jersey”.
