On the 50th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier, the US Mint released a set of four commemorative coins to celebrate the anniversary. Presented here are two silver dollar coins and two gold five dollar coins. The dollar coins feature an image of Robinson sliding into home on one side and the Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary logo on the reverse side. Minted in San Francisco, these coins measure 38.10 mm and weigh 26.7 grams. The gold coins feature a “1919-1972 Legacy of Courage” logo on one side and a portrait of Robinson on the other. These coins were minted in West Point, with a weight of 8.359 grams and a diameter of 21.59 mm.
These coins come in a 5 x 5 inch red velvet presentation box with a small US Mint gold logo on the bottom right corner of the top of the box. The velvet box is encased in a slightly larger box with “Jackie Robinson” and “Commemorative Coin Program United States Mint” printed in gold. These coins are accompanied by a COA from the United States Mint.
