In just his second year in the Majors, Rey Ordóñez outshone all other National League shortstops and won the first of his three Gold Glove Awards. The best was yet to come, as the Mets star went 101 consecutive games without committing a miscue during the 1999-2000 seasons. This is Rey Ordóñez’s first Gold Glove Award. The iconic trophy measures 17 x 16 inches and features a gold-painted Rawlings glove with “The Gold Glove Award” mounted on a solid oak platform. The award also features a portrait etching of Rey Ordonez with his Mets cap embossed onto a metallic gold colored plate with a pair of gold painted Rawlings baseballs supported by golden tripods on either side. A nameplate mounted on the base reads: “1997 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Presented to REY ORDONEZ Honoring His Selection As ‘THE FINEST IN THE FIELD!’” The award shows light wear with some dings and scuffs from age and display. An outstanding award that pays tribute to one of the greatest shortstops in New York Mets history.
