Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa captivated MLB fans in 1998 with their historical chase of Roger Maris’ single-season home run record of 61. McGwire would be the first to break the record, finishing the season with an incredible 70 home runs and Sosa finished four behind him with 66. The Cubs slugger followed up the record-breaking season with another tremendous year in 1999 with 63 home runs, two shy of Mark McGwire’s total for that season. The Hoosier HB21 model bat shows excellent use and is un-cracked. Several ball marks with stitch impressions and black ink transfers are found on the barrel with cleat imprints. Black and green bat rack paint streaks are found on the knob and a moderate coat of pine tar is on the handle. The knob has been wrapped to enhance the grip and Sosa’s number “21” and model number “HB21” are written on the knob in black marker. This bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B01883) for the game use, with a grade of GU 8.5.
