It's hard to imagine a time when Alex Rodriguez was an admired athlete any General Manager would want on his or her team. But back in his salad days with the Seattle Mariners in the 1990s, the gifted slugger was the toast of baseball. Here are a jersey and cap the then-shortstop wore during the 1998 season, when the Rodriguez led the American League with 213 hits and joined the exclusive 40/40 club for the first and only time with 42 homers and 46 steals. The white polyester Russell button-down jersey reads "MARINERS" across the chest, with "RODRIGUEZ 3" on the back, which also bears his signature in bold black Sharpie (9/10) and inscription: "1998 GAME USED 40/40". It is tapered to Size 48 (tagging on the front tail) with 2" extra body length, 1" extra sleeve length and 1998 tags. There is a team logo patch on the left sleeve and light soiling from game use. The hat is signed by "A-Rod" on the bill ("7/10") with the notation "GAME USED." Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
