Cal Ripken, Jr. represented the Orioles’s at the 1998 All-Star Game held in Colorado. Starting at 3rd base, Cal went 1-for-4 in the game, his one hit coming in the 4th off Tom Glavine, a run-scoring double to right. This offered Louisville Slugger P72 model bat comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and was used by baseball’s Ironman during the 1998 All-Star Game. Ripken also used this bat for the final time when he hit a broken-bat RBI single to center field off of Boston Red Sox pitcher Jim Corsi in the bottom of the 8th inning to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead – a lead in which they would hold on for the victory.
Ripken has marked this bat on the barrel with a piece of athletic tape and labeled it “ALL STAR GAME 98 BAT Broken 7/9/98 Game Winning Hit vs BOS Jim Corsi”. This bat displays outstanding game use with the aforementioned crack on the handle. This bat displays numerous ball marks, blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs on the barrel, along with slight checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact. The handle has been taped approximately 12-inches in a spiral pattern to enhance the grip. This bat comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this bat. Additionally, there is a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B19740) for the game use and has been given a very high grade of GU 9.5.
