Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr’s 1998 season was when the Ironman decided to end the consecutive games’ streak as it came to an end when he sat out the September 20th home game against the New York Yankees. His amazing run concluded at 2,632 consecutive games played, a record that will never be broken. Ripken still put up solid numbers in 1998 (14 home runs, 61 RBI and a .271 batting average) and he wore this black Orioles batting helmet during the 1998 season.

This helmet comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and this all-black helmet features the Orioles bird logo affixed to the front. There is a left ear flap for a right-handed hitter and the back has Ripken’s number “8” in an orange sticker and the ABC (American Baseball Cap Company) logo in white. This helmet is a size 7 3/8 and the size sticker and MLB Diamond Collection stickers are affixed on the inside crown. The inner padding are still intact and displays solid wear. “98” is handwritten in black marker on the padding of the back crown. This helmet comes from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA will accompany this 1998 game used helmet. The item comes with an LOA from Elite Sports Photo Matching who conclusively matched the helmet to the 1998 season.
