Presented here is a Gene A. Budig Official American League baseball which was turned into a three run home run by New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Jeter hit the home run in the top of the fourth inning of an April 17th, 1998 contest against the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees won this game by a score of 11-2 as Jeter finished 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
This was the first home run of the season for Jeter, and the 21st blast of his career. Additionally, it is one of only two home runs he ever hit at Tiger Stadium. Jeter signed the sweet spot of the ball in dark green pen. Below the sweet spot “HR Ball / Hit by Derek Jeter / New York Yankees / 4th Inning / At Tiger Stadium / April 17, 1998 / Yankees 11 Tigers 2” is inscribed in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from MEARS for the game use and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A08610) for the signature.
