In 1998, France hosted the World Cup for the first time since 1938, with games taking place at ten historic stadia across the country. The final, staged at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, saw the host nation take on Brazil for global bragging rights. Thanks to a pair of goals from number 10 Zinedine Zidane, and an insurance goal in stoppage time from Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit, France claimed the title via 3-0 victory. Brazilian striker Ronaldo won the Golden Ball, while Croatia’s Davor Šuker claimed the Golden Boot with six goals.
Offered in this lot is a runners-up medal from the 1998 FIFA World Cup originally presented to Brazilian Football Confederation employee Alexandre Silva Da Silveira. This medal is silver and attached to a red, white, and blue ribbon. Etched in high relief on one side is “Coupe Du Monde De La FIFA France 1998”. Etched in high relief on the reverse side is an image of the FIFA World Cup Trophy. This historic medal is in great condition and comes with a LOA from Alexandre Silva Da Silveira.
