1998 was a whirlwind season for Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza. After spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Piazza was traded to the Florida Marlins on May 15th, 1998. His stay in south Florida would be short as exactly one week later on May 22nd – appearing in only five games with the Marlins, Piazza was traded to the New York Mets.
This offered size 50 AIS New York Mets road gray button-down jersey was worn by Piazza during his first season with New York. Piazza would appear in 109 games and continued to pound National League pitching to a tune of a .348 batting average, 23 home runs and 76 RBI. His combined total for 1998 with the three clubs were .328/32/111. This jersey has “NEW YORK” sewn on the front in blue, orange and black tackle twill. Piazza’s “31” is sewn below on the center left chest in the same blue, orange and black tackle twill. Blue piping runs around the collar and down both sides of the buttons and on the ends of each sleeve. The back of the jersey has “PIAZZA” and “31” sewn on in blue, orange and black tackle twill. The left sleeve has the Mets “skyline” logo patch sewn on and the AIS tag sewn on the inside back center tail, with a “50” flag.
