Mark McGwire did to this baseball what he was born to do, crushing the unfortunate sphere to deep left-center off New York Mets pitcher Jeff Tam in the first game of a double-header at Shea Stadium on August 22nd, 1999. This was McGwire’s second homer of the day, and his 50th of the 1999 campaign. The late 1990s were a productive few years for McGwire, who collected 50 or more homers in a season in four straight campaigns from 1996 through 1999. “Big Mac” has signed this ball’s sweet spot in blue pen. Seven tickets from the August 22nd double-header are included in this lot, with one signed in bold blue marker by the 500 Home Run Club member. The ball comes with a LOA from MEARS for game-use, and JSA authentication for the signature on the ball (WPP838906) and ticket (WPP838643).
