Offered in this lot is a replica Team USA jersey gifted to USWNT legend Michelle Akers by her fellow soccer icon and teammate Brandi Chastain. Akers and Chastain were two mainstays of the United States National Team during the 1980’s and 1990’s, with Chastain’s iconic penalty kick against China clinching the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup title for the United States. 

This jersey pokes gentle fun at Akers passion for animal welfare and rehabilitation with the tongue-in-cheek sobriquet “Pig Farmer” printed on the back shoulders of the jersey. Today, Akers operates the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and Outreach, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to caring for abused or neglected farm animals. This white Nike jersey has the USWNT crest applied to the chest, while Akers’ number “10” is printed on the chest and back in navy and red numerals. “PIG FARMER” is printed across the back shoulders in navy lettering. A Nike size “XL” tag is sewn on the front left tail. This jersey comes with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and Outreach Inc.
