United States soccer icon Michelle Akers was issued this red and blue USWNT jersey during the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Akers, a member of the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions team, was instrumental in carrying the United States to a second world title at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. In a tense, defensive, affair, the USWNT prevailed in a penalty shootout after 120 minutes of scoreless soccer thanks to Brandi Chastain’s memorable spot-kick strike. This offered Team USA jersey has been signed and heavily inscribed by Akers, with additional signatures coming from fellow United States international Siri Mullinix and United States National Team captain Carla Overbeck.

Akers, Overbeck, and Mullinix have signed the back shoulders of this jersey in black marker. “AKERS” is applied to the back shoulders in white lettering, while the former UCF star’s iconic number “10” is printed on the back and chest in white numerals. On the “10” digit on the back of the jersey, Akers inscribed “Flew on Space Shuttler Columbia July 23 1999”, “Autographed by astronaut Eileen Collins”, “Eileen Collins 1st female shuttle commander 1999 and 1st female shuttle pilot 1995”, and “This jersey is also signed by me and Carla Overbeck #4 USA Captain” in black marker. Although she added this inscription the jersey has not been signed by Astronaut Eileen Collins nor flown on the shuttle and was mistakenly inscribed. Additional features of this jersey include a white Nike swoosh and a USWNT crest sewn on the chest, as well as two stars sewn on the right sleeve. This jersey comes with a LOA from Michelle Akers and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A52910) for the signatures. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and Outreach Inc.
