United States midfielder Michelle Akers wore these black Nike cleats during the United States victory over North Korea at Foxboro Stadium in the Group Stages of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The United States cruised to a 3-0 victory in front of over 50,000, with Tisha Venturini netting a brace and Shannon MacMillan notching her only goal of the tournament. Akers, who scored in the USWNT’s previous game against Nigeria, was named to the 18 but did not play against North Korea. Disaster nearly struck after the game, as a handshake with a fan dislocated Akers’ shoulder and nearly cost the former All-American her World Cup. The famously tough Akers went on to play through the pain and help lead the Stars and Stripes to their second World Cup title with a historic penalty shootout victory against China at a packed Rose Bowl.

These offered size “7” cleats are black, with a white Nike swoosh sewn on each side of the shoes. The lace guards also feature white Nike logos, and “NIKE” is embroidered on each heel in blue over a white and black swoosh. Akers has signed the sole of the right shoe in black marker, writing “1999 WC Game”, “3-0”, and “Dislocated Shoulder” in addition to her signature. Please note that the signature exhibits minor wear but still presents well. These cleats come with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers herself. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
