United States midfielder Michelle Akers wore these black Nike cleats during the semifinals of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup against Brazil at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, California. The composed number 10 scored the second goal of the United States’ 2-0 win, slotting a penalty past Brazilian netminder Maravilha in the 80th minute after Mia Hamm drew a foul in Brazil’s box. This was Akers’ second goal of the tournament and the 12th of her World Cup career. The United States moved on to face China in the final at the Rose Bowl, with Brandi Chastain’s historic penalty giving the United States their second FIFA World Cup title.
These offered cleats are black, with white Nike swoosh logos sewn on each side of the shoes. Additional Nike swoosh logos are located on each heel and the soles. “Nike” is embroidered in blue on each heel. Twelve rubber studs are present on the soles of the cleats. These cleats are accompanied by a LOA signed by Michelle Akers herself. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
