The Yankees swung into the 1999 World Series as an unbeatable machine. Easily taking the AL East title by four games over Boston, the Yanks featured one of the greatest line ups in their history. While the pitching staff of Clemens, Pettitte, Hernandez and Cone was the best in the American League, the Braves' staff of Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz was considered one of the best in the entire history of the game. The Yankees-Braves match up promised to be one of the most hard-fought in a generation - but New York had other ideas. The starting rotation of Hernandez, Pettitte, Cone and Clemens totally overpowered the Braves bats and New York tagged the Atlanta pitchers for a total of 17 runs. In a blur of timely hitting and excellent pitching, the Yankees swept Atlanta in 4-straight games. Series MVP Mariano Rivera was simply unhittable out of New York's bullpen as he saved two games and registered the win for Game 3. It was the second series sweep in a row for the Yankees and the third consecutive time the team defeated the Braves in the World Series.

This 1999 World Championship Commissioner's trophy is set upon a 2 ½-inch tall, 7-diameter wooden base, whose surrounding gold-colored band reads "WORLD SERIES CHAMPION NEW YORK YANKEES 1999". Atop the black base, a gold-colored band features a silver-colored baseball at its base topped by a championship crown. Proudly standing at the front of the display are the 1999 World Series press pins from the Yankees and Braves teams. Surrounding the base are gold-colored flags alphabetically bearing the names of each Major League team. Beginning with the Anaheim Angels on the left side and Arizona Diamondbacks on the N.L. side, the flags gradually ascend in size from 5 ½-inches to 9 3/8 inches and the trophy measures almost 12 inches tall overall. This trophy is good overall condition with some tarnish on the gold-colored band.
