Roberto Alomar was as dominant of a second baseman as Major League Baseball has ever seen, particularly in the 1990s and early 2000s, when he amassed a record 10 Gold Glove awards. The 2011 Hall of Fame inductee is a career .300 hitter who held that standard or better nine seasons during his career. This navy blue, button-down Cleveland Indians game used alternate road jersey features “Cleveland” across the chest, with “ALOMAR” across the back on a navy blue name plate and his number “12” below, all in red on navy blue-and-white tackle twill. Alomar’s signature appears in bold, black Sharpie on the “1” on the back of this jersey from a 1999 season that saw the second baseman hit .323 with 120 RBI. The right sleeve of the jersey features a stitched “A.L. CENTRAL CHAMPS” patch, while the left sleeve boasts an Indians logo patch. The front tail of the jersey has a stitched “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with additional affixed tags that read “12,” “46,” and “SET 1 1999,” indicating Alomar’s number, the jersey size and set. The jersey comes with a handwritten letter from Indians equipment manager Ted Walsh explaining that Alomar, along with Jim Thome and a couple other players, wore sample jerseys from Rawlings “for a couple games for feedback,” as the Indians were a Russell Athletic team. The signed jersey, which shows light evidence of game use, also is certified by PSA and has an email from Indians Auctions confirming the item.
