For “Slammin” Sammy Sosa, 1999 marked the second season in a row where the slugger belted over 60 home runs. A year after his historic home run battle with Mark McGwire that saw the two sluggers combine for 136 home runs, Sosa connected on 63 homers and drove in 141 in 1999, while leading the National League in total bases with 397.
Offered here is a home white with blue pinstripes button-down Chicago Cubs jersey worn by Sosa during the 1999 season. This size 48 jersey was manufactured by Russell Athletic and features the Cubs blue circle “Cubs” logo on the upper left chest. The lower front left tail has the Russell Athletic tag with a “100% POLYESTER” flag. The inside back collar has a team ID strip that reads “21-48-99-10”. The back of the jersey has “SOSA” and “21” sewn on in blue and red tackle twill. The left sleeve has the Cubs “C” with a bear logo patch sewn on and the right sleeve has the Russell Athletic logo embroidered in blue and red. Sosa signed his name in blue marker between his name and number on the back and inscribed “#21” and “66 HR”. This jersey displays moderate game use and comes with a LOA from Mears for the game use, who have graded this jersey an A5 and a LOA from JSA (Z83923) for the signature.
