For “Slammin” Sammy Sosa, 1999 marked the second season in a row where the slugger belted over 60 home runs. A year after his historic home run battle with Mark McGwire that saw the two sluggers combine for 136 home runs, Sosa connected on 63 homers and drove in 141 in 1999, while leading the National League in total bases with 397. Sosa used this this blue American Baseball Cap Company (ABC) size 7 3/8 Cubs helmet during the 1999 season.

This helmet displays heavy game use with numerous abrasions and pine tar stains present throughout. The Cubs “C” is affixed on the front in a red and white embroidery, while Sosa’s number is affixed to the back of the helmet in individual “21” red and white stickers. This helmet has a left ear flap consistent with a right-handed batter and the interior of the helmet has a brown leather headband pad. The center pad is missing. Sosa has signed his name in silver marker on the brim and inscribed “Game Used”. This item comes with a LOA from MEARS (316243) for the game use and a STICKER ONLY from PSA/DNA (AD45780) for the signature.
