In 2000, the United States’ recently-retired legend Michelle Akers was presented this award by Futbol de Primera, an extremely popular Spanish-language, American-based radio network covering “the beautiful game”. Akers was a two-time World Cup champion with the United States, leading the Stars and Stripes to a title in the inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991 and claiming the 1999 title on home turf at the Rose Bowl. This offered trophy stands 10 inches tall, and is etched with the Futbol de Primera logo and “La Radio del Mundial” at the top. Also etched on the trophy is “To Michelle Akers / Simply The Best Women’s Player Who Has Ever Played The Game / December 2000”. Akers has signed this award in black marker, inscribing “#10 USA” and “2x World Champ / Olympic Gold / Player of Century” in addition to her signature. This trophy comes with a LOA from Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and Outreach Inc.
